Vista is damaging the freedoms that the internet was based on.

Skype reads your bios?

Slashdot posted this article about Skype. It reads your BIOS (it's on your motherboard and holds a unique number, attached hardware and so on) so it seems. If this is true, then Skype is malicious and above that a lying company. In that case Skype would be exit on my machine and probably on many more..

The JVC Chameleon. I liked it back in the days and i got one 2 years ago. Treated it nicely (I love my music!), but all of a sudden this piece of electronics stopped functioning ok. Most likely due to the slide-out controls. Bad move of JVC it seems. It functions on and off and it really ticks me of. So, my next radio won't be a JVC. Too bad, it was quite nice when it worked.

So to those who consider buying a JVC Chameleon.. think twice!

As if the clause mentioned earlier wasn't enough, vista will have more anti-user tricks on it's sleeve. Basically vista will be a dictator in a box. Happy computing!

you can't go wrong with the Linux pinguin in your PC (or Mac).

I have been using Linux now for some months on an old laptop, i had some issues (which almost made me stop using it as i posted on this blog), but lately it had serve me very well. It does a lot of tasks i need it to do for me. Linux has become a long way, also due to the incredible Ubuntu project (respect!)
Meanwhile I did switch and i am using Mint Linux (based upon Ubuntu) now.

Oh.. Apple OSX is based on Unix, which Linux is also build upon. Just for those that would like to know.

They want to patent it? Someone should put Micro$oft to sleep for good! RSS invented by Dave Winer, was meant to be open. It's a community tool, everybody loves it and uses it. Benefits are showing and who shows up to ruin the party? Again! Micro$oft.. forget about the patent and may Linux become the better you. You're time has been if i had to call it..

Way to go Foxie! I've supported it all the way and i'm glad to see where it is going.
The W3Counter (not the same as the W3C for web-standards) has the browser statistics online. This is good news for developers and the W3C. Although the W3C doesn't always favours the best choices, the fact that the Standards-bandwagon is slowly winning ground is a good thing for a lot of people. So.. IE.. grow up and start supporting standards the way you should instead of programming it just on your own behalf.

That's it. I have been running several Linux builds for some while (beatrix, ubuntu, morphix, dreamlinux), due to a older laptop i always had to go for lighter builds which was ok for me. Somehow stuff never worked for me, one time it was this, the other it was that and i kept trying to fix it and to make it work and after some that it did, but.. it's tiring.. it is. So after another problem (VNC only sending capital letters) i decided to stop all of it. I want to suport linux, but it often feels i try to fix more than i hay enjoyment from it, so.. this is it. I am about to stop using Linux. For those that use linux, way to go, they need it. I wish i could do too, but somehhow it wasn't planned to be that way. Too bad.

update 14 Nov:
I gave Dreamlinux another go.. let's hope it sticks.

It can only be found in the source(ffrom what i could see) and the path is relative(it should be a full path). For those that want it: Dev Opera RSS link.

So i'm chatten tot his girl. We're having kind of fun and all of a sudden *click* no internet! The timing of it all! They got it fixed after a little over an hour, but it made me thing. Just the other day a client contacted me about the bad connection to his website and i myself had some problems of my own as well, with the same webhost. My former webhost wasn't quite so good as well.

Should i worry? Statistics say that we in the Netherlands rank quite high in internet subscribers and all, but with these points on the other side what does that really say?

I really hope things get better... soon.

I picked up a interview with Steve with Conan 'O Brien. With Steve we lost a legend of our time. A unique person who made nature and it animals exciting. We might not always agree on every way he used, but in the end.. he had his own style.

This one is very cool. I checked it out first, making sure it wasn't one with a scare on the end making your hart do weird stuff :) This one is not like that.
This optical illusion, like the page says, will make you have an hallucinating vision. Ever seem the photo's with a weird zoom in en they bend outwards? This is exactly like that only live! Whatever you will look at, it will have that shape.
It'll wear off in a few seconds and it isn't harmfull. It's just tricking your brain for a bit.

The burden of doing business

Running my own little company (which will be bigger someday). Trying to do my best, the please clients, most are very nice, others just suck you dry, it is hard to keep standing, wanting to do the best, be friendly, give a thing or two every now and then and seeing them do well and seeing yourself struggling through piles of bills.
I will get there, I will be ok, it just hurts. Wanting to do good and seeing where it can you leed you in the business life.

I am a lesson wiser, that much is clear to me. And i hope that anyone who is thinking of starting his or her own company, that it can be hard. No matter how good your heart and soul is.
Things should not be like this, not like this. We need more spirituallity in this game of business. More respect and more honesty. Maybe some day..

I just need to get this off my back so i posted it here.

Internet Explorer is loosing market-share with developers for sure. W3C statistics on Ajaxian show this very well. It's just a matter now for 'regular' people to hop on the bandwagon.

If you are a regular web-surfer and you like having tons of popups while you surf, spyware installed and all kind of other vulnerabilities, keep using IE. If you like your surfing to be nice and pleasent and being able to see what you want to see, that and that only.. consider Firefox. It is simply the better choice.

And hey, don't only take my word for it. See what a Google search on 'loving Firefox' turns up..

Swith to Firefox and start enjoying the web again.

Will big coorporates ever stop screwing people over ? Don't they have children that will also inherrit this earth someday. Didn't they got love when they were small ? Sometimes these people make me doubt if they even are human.

To show you what i mean, let me first point you to a video that Moby (yes, the singer/songwriter) put online., then.. go and visit http://www.savetheinternet.com/ and sign the petition.

Here is the petition i sent out:

The internet is a system, made by, and paid for by the public. It is a service that should act in the interest of the people and not of the companies who provide acces to it or who benefit by making the internet play it their way.

The internet is free and will always be free.

They have taken television, they won't have the internet.

If they try ,internet will die in 5 years due to the lack of people being interested anymore and the internet will be no more than a novelty that once was.

Don't mess with people, don;t mess with internet. They internet has to be and will be, FREE!

Myspace - So who's Space is it?

MySpace is your space, untill you might write or publish stuff the owners don't like, or if you link websites they might not like or if they feel the sites are (too?) competetieve, because then it will be 'Space gone' ? It seems, this terror-act to free space, uses some kinds of smart-filters for external content or links myspace users add or use or link too.
Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones have discovered some stuff going on on myspace and Rupert Murdoch.

It seems more and more the case that certain companies corrupt the internet. We should go back to sites where people do it for the passion, for the idea they had and not the corporate's who (mostly!) have a hidden agenda to attend to or some economic gain planned and in the end not really care about the user.

Whatever happens, the internet should!, and will, be free.

I-Tunes + Podcast = No tunes

So.. i like to get and listen the occasional podcast. I was there wehen the hype started, when the debate started over who was the inventor etc.

A few months later I-Tunes discovers Podcasting and some of the feeds i was subscribed to moved to I-Tunes. Basically they are telling me, sure.. you can listen, but you need to 'have (or download)' I-Tunes ! My answer is... Why ?
It worked perfectly before and if Apple ad least had some decency to also offer a normal RSS feed it would all be ok. If I-Tunes is that nice to have, people will install it sooner or later right ?

Apple.. more and more i see them 'doubtfull' corporate strategics... Don't!
Trust me, don't. Goodwill for a company is given not taken.

To Podcasters in general, although I-Tunes might, and i say might(!) bring extra exposure to your podcast it isn't the only way. Serve at least an extra RSS Feed. I mean ask yourself, are you promoting your podcast or I-Tunes ?

The power and flexibility of Linux shows every day. After the succesful launch a while back of Ubuntu, which is doing pretty good (as it deserves, respect to Brewster), and after that Kubuntu, there now is an Edubuntu. These are the kinds of efforts i like and respect a lot. Linux, the flexmaker. Oh and ofcourse these are free distributions.
